Digital Divide?

Hi

Here's a short article from the UK paper 'The Mirror' (a tabloid):

 

I can remember being concerned back in the late 90's that my daughter's school assumed she had internet at home ... but here we are 10+ years later ...

 

I suppose the solution is to have open labs in schools and after school homework clubs? Other solutions?

Using YouTube?

One of my students really caused me to stop and think today ...

He needed to make a 'contents page' and was a bit frustrated by the instructions in Word 7, so he searched for help on Youtube commenting, 'Miss, well, you know, everything's on YouTube'.

Hmmmmmmm - is THAT what I should be doing, I wonder - should I be making YouTubes to explain, outline and clarify lessons and requirements for my students?
