That is because it is what they use them for... so co opt it. They want to play games, so give them games. Use things like spellingcity.com for fun vocabulary games... or my personal favoriate is using the scatter from www.quizlet.com and having them compete with each other.

When I suggested this topic for our joint event, I had my students with their laptops on my mind. Sometimes I feel that they just want to have it on and keep looking at the screen, but when you assign a task, they don't want to work.
For some reason,for them, they associated the laptop with playing games and watching movies or using social networks, but not serious work!
